Apple sells the iPhone in China through China Unicom, one of the smaller operators. China Mobile with 600 million users world's largest mobile operator, and was rumored last summer also interested in selling the iPhone. Stumbling block is to use a different 3G standard (TD-SCDMA), which is developed by the Chinese government, while China Unicom is just standard wireless technology used. Nevertheless, there were 7.5 million iPhones last summer already active on the network of China Mobile. They were probably using a gray zone, the land acquired.
