Apple would for the next generation iPhone using IGZO screen technology instead of the current IPS screens. The IGZO panels (indium gallium zinc oxide) are made by Sharp and have higher resolution. As a result, full HD resolution, say the sources of Digitimes.
Currently, Apple is using IPS technology (in-plane switching) for the current iPhone screens. The suggestion of a move to IGZO has already been made, namely in a research note from analyst Peter Misek. He wrote in November:
Also, we believe That Apple and Sharp together have a modified IGZO (indium, gallium, zinc) Technology to Achieve 330 dpi, which is Sufficient for an HD display, while not having to include normal IPS Using dual-bar LED back lighting.
Apple and Sharp IGZO so would have adapted to a resolution of 330 dpi to get. Benefits are a flatter design, longer battery life and better user experience. Sharp announced last April that they IGZO new panels over the course of 2011 would go into mass production offer. IGZO panels are cheaper, have higher resolution and ensure that Apple may need to add a second light beam to the screen.
